I’ve Been Published! In a Book! – GIVEAWAY!!

If you’re friends with me on Facebook, follow us on Instagram or tag along while I muttle my way through Twitter, then what I’m about to share isn’t really news.  If you aren’t one or all of those three things (Why the heck not?) then this will be news to you.

I’ve been published!

A little more than a year ago, I was contacted by Samantha Parent Walravens about an article I had written over at Mamapedia.  She was compiling a book of work by 46 women who are struggling to find balance in life – the balance between work, life and motherhood.  Something I struggle with daily.  She’d read what I’d written and wanted to know if I would be willing to contribute my work to the book.

I had to think about it for a while (like 3 and half seconds!)

YES! Of Course I would!

What blogger (who is secretly dreaming of one day being an Author – or an American Idol.  Since the latter requires a gift for singing, the first is the one I dream most of) wouldn’t want some of her work in print?  For the world to read, to be around forever?

I was so thrilled, excited and honored.  Of all the women she could have asked, she chose me (among the other 45), I didn’t seek her out but rather she found me and I was and still am immensely flattered!

My copy of Torn: True Stories of Kids, Career & the conflict of Modern MotherhoodI couldn’t wait to get into it and have a read.  It’s awesome!

There are stories from Moms that will break your heart, some that will make you laugh and others that will have you shouting a great big “Amen, Sista!” from the bathroom.  (What?  You get to read somewhere other than while you’re locked in the bathroom for 4 minutes privacy.  I’m jealous)

The women these stories have come from are mostly from the USA, at least all but two of us are. (Hey Liesl!  Go check her out at her blog!) These women are amazing!  There’s a wide range of education levels, job positions and social standings, but we all share one great common denominator.  We’re all mothers, struggling our way through this vast journey trying to make everything work.  We love our kids, and we want nothing more than the best for them, even when that means we need to put ourselves in time out to catch our breath.

After a year of proof reading, waiting and a ton of work on Sam’s part the book is ready to go and will be released for sale on Sunday, May 1st!!!!  To say we are all excited is a little bit of an understatement!  Everyone has worked so hard to reach this goal, and to see it finally come to fruition is so great.

I waited to share this news because at first I didn’t know it was going to happen.  Then once it did, I wanted to have the book in hand first.  Now that it has, I’m ready to share it with the world, and….

That’s right, one lucky reader/commenter is going to win their very own copy of Torn!  If you’re a mom you’ll love it and if you’re not, you probably know someone who will.  So comment, enter, win and share!

I am so very blessed to have been given this opportunity and send a huge shout out and thanks to Samantha for the chance to see the start of one my greatest dreams come true.  From here all I can do is hope that more doors are opened, more paths are laid and more hearts are touched, the way this book touched mine.

So, how do you win?!  Easy – Leave a comment, telling me your favourite “war story” from raising your kids. Or, if you don’t have children, tell me about a story from when you were a kid, you know that one time you’re pretty sure your mother was ready to throw you out with the bath water.

Want more chances, (or just want to help me spread the word, because I’m EXCITED!) to win…

Click the Facebook or Twitter links  below this post to share it with your friends. (then comment to let me know, just in case I miss it)  Each time you share it, you’ll earn another entry

Blog about it (email  me a copy of your post ashleystone7 at hotmail dot com)

This contest runs until May 10th at Midnight.  Open to residents of Canada and the United States.

That’s it!  I’ll be ordering the book from Amazon.ca (click the link to go directly to the book to purchase it) and having it shipped directly to you!  If you don’t win or you know that you’ll need more than one copy feel free to order them there.

  1. Oh! I'd love to win your book. I don't have children yet (maybe next year if we're lucky) so I'll have to tell you a story about me as a kid.

When I was younger, I liked to make up plays and games and force my siblings to take part. One time I decided we were going to pretend to be alter servers and walk up and down the hallway in our white bathrobes carrying our baptismal candles. My sister decided she didn't want to play anymore, so I hit her over the head and broke my brother's baptismal candle. My mom still reminds me of that . . .

    Congratulations on the book!

  2. Well, I don't have any children yet and can't think of any good stories of me at the moment, but I am more than happy to share your link on my Facebook page! 😀 Would LOVE to win the book, although even if I don't I'm sure I'll buy it in the near future anyways 🙂 Will it be available on other websites too? I have a coupon for Chapters online. Anyways, congrats again! 😀

  3. Congratulations! What an honour and so very exciting to see your words in print. Way to go!!

  4. Very cool that you are included in this book Ashley! I would find it a privilege to have a copy and read it. All mums, not-quite-yet-mums, and grand-mums could get something out of the book I’m sure, no matter where we are in our mum-journey.
I guess a struggle we have daily is to learn about and help our son as he has Aspergers, an anxiety disorder, Sensory Integration Sysfunction, and quite recently we found out about his many allergies, he is gifted with a learning disability… He is such a gem, and while his brain is wired differently, those differences allow him to have such talents. But, he struggles with daily things most of us take for granted, so our learning curve is huge as we try to learn as much as we can to help him and be an advocate for him…
So we don’t have a “war story”, but a daily, life story…

  5. I don't know if it's a "war story" or not, but we have had a lot of trouble with sleep-while-teething. We went through the average sleeping patterns when Bunny was really little, but to go through that AGAIN, CONTINUOUSLY from like, 6 months to … well, it's still happening! It's brutal. Thank goodness for tylenol, advil, and baby orajel. They have been our life savers over and over.

Congrats on your book! I'm SUPER excited for you and can't wait to read your entries. Whether I win or not I will be buying a copy and will need your signature!

  6. Congrats on being published! I’m a neat-tidy kind of person and my first little one is a three year “doctor destructo!”. I find it difficult to find balance between keeping my home clean and cherishing moments with my Monkey. I guess that’s my daily “war story” 🙂
