A little bit of Good in Summer

I feel like Fall is on the horizon.  The past two days have been significantly cooler, the days a little shorter and the air smells different (and no I don’t mean the “Oh today it’s pig dung instead of cow” difference either).  I’m happy.

That’s not to say that we won’t have some hot days left in the year, but they aren’t the same.  Even last week, when the daytime temperatures soared the evenings cooled down nicely.  Summer is wrapping up, and while I know the majority of the world sulks, whines, complains and hangs on to each second of summer – I don’t.

I have a myriad of reasons for not loving summer, the heat, the clothing, the burns, the clothing, sweat, the clothing….all land under the “I don’t like it” category.  Fall on the other hand still has sunny warm (not hot) days, beautiful colors on the trees, pants, no jackets/scarves/mittens/toques required and plenty of time for being outside.  It’s pretty much perfect.  Until winter comes but we’re not going to be negative today.

But even though I long for Fall and end of summer I do have to admit Summer comes with some pretty sweet photos.  My girls and my husband love being out in the heat and the sunshine – which means I follow along, slathered in sunscreen, sneaking into the shade camera/iPhone in tow taking pictures to document the beauty hidden behind the heat wave.

It helps remind me to find the silver lining in everything.

What’s your favourite season?

  1. I LOVE summer and can't stand fall 😉 Fall to me is a precursor to freezing cold weather and no sunshine and trying to put little octopuses into snowsuits. Last fall I actually decorated for it (you know, the bale of straw, pumpkins, scarecrow etc.) to try to embrace it… totally didn't work.

So I'm squeezing out every last drop of summer I can, despite the fact that the leaves are already starting to change here.

  2. Oh, fall is my favourite! It's an extra busy season for us with apple harvest, so that can be stressful, but it's so nice to bust out the sweaters and the slow cooker and try new recipes with pumpkin in them. I wish it lasted a little longer, though. Seems like that first snow always hits before I'm ready.

  3. I love fall as well. I love sweaters, the changing leaves, the temperature, and there are still so many “firsts” for my little E to have fun with – I can’t wait to get some pictures of her in leaf piles! My favourite season of all is winter though – NEVER get enough of the beautiful white stuff!!!
