Finding Time to play, the Kinder way*

Sometimes finding time to play feels impossible.  I mean, the kids play all the time, Bethany and Audrey play with their food, their toys and their socks (because imaginations rock!), I on the other hand don’t.

Life is busy here.  Between working out of the home (with my girls in tow), school, house work, cooking, cleaning, laundry, trips to the potty, laundry, being a wife and driving (because that seems to be what I do most) I feel like there isn’t any time left to just play.

It frustrates me.  It upsets me, and it’s something I have to make a daily effort to change.

So often, when I do find time to play it comes at the most inopportune moments.  Take last Monday for instance.  I was in the shower and I could hear the girls coming in and out of my en suite.  They were playing, and talking and I was blissfully enjoying the heat, while planning out the 450 thousand things I needed done that day.  I shut the water off, got out and began drying off.

As I wrapped the towel around myself and opened my drawer for my anti-flaky face cream moisturizer the girls came piling into the room.  They both came to a screeching halt, peered over the edge of my drawer and with big eyes just looked at my nail polish.

They’d been playing “beauty salon” for days, and had been asking even longer for me to do their nails.  I kept saying “later”, “sure!  Just not now.”…you know the never-ending list of it’s going to happens, that just don’t. Nobody asked that morning, but it was written all over their faces – they wanted their nails done.

I had so much to get done, including covering my freezing tushie, but instead of getting dressed.  I told them each to choose a color, wrapped my towel a little tighter and hunkered down to paint a nail or two.

It took 10 minutes each tops, and when we were done they looked as though someone had given them the key to Toys ‘R Us or something.  They spent the day showing off their manicures to everyone we met, and hugging my legs.  It was worth every single goosebump.

My pals over at Kinder Canada get it.  They know how hard it is for busy moms of every variety to make time in their day for play.  And while working with them as a Kinder Mom is rocking the whole “cool Mom” status for me (any mom who wields a Kinder Surprise is the mortal version of Superwoman) it has also made me stop and thinking about the time I take to play.

Pulling out a Kinder egg has quickly become an exciting moment for us all.  I’m anxious to steal a bite of chocolate check out the new toy hidden inside, and they’re excited to eat the chocolate, play with the toy and get a little extra attention.  It’s a win, win!  (ps. Kinder’s are a great Mom treat too!  Did you know they only have 110 calories each?  And the toy inside is excellent for keeping Daddy entertained too!)

I hope all of you managed to get your FREE Kinder Egg a few weeks back when they were being the generous souls they are.  And now it’s time for more!  This time, head over to the Kinder Canada Facebook page and check out the CONTEST going on right now
