This Mother’s Day our house as a little…busy. It was loud and crazy, filled with laughter & people, and it was great!
Back at the beginning of April I began thinking of Mother’s Day (you know, on one of those days where I felt as though the girls were going to make my head explode? It helps to go to my “happy place”). As I ran through what we were going to do with the weekend something kept hammering at the back of my brain – this would be the first Mother’s Day that Corey’s mom would be without her mom.
The thought of it broke my heart, I can’t imagine life without my Mom and whether it was in person or over the phone, not being able to wish her a Happy Mother’s Day would be tragic.
I thought about it for about 15 seconds and then quickly picked up my phone and texted her to invite her here, to spend it with us. I put my phone down, thought about another 15 seconds and picked it back up, hammering out texts to Corey’s brothers & sister-in-law inviting them all out to spend it with us. I mean, if she couldn’t be with her mom the least we could do was make sure she was with her sons.
I put my phone back down, this time for about 30 seconds and then thought, “whoops, guess I should tell Corey too” and I picked it back up again.
To make a long story short, a lot of planning, some long distance driving on the part of certain family members, serious secret keeping (surprise!) and the like – the weekend arrived and so did our family.
I love having our house filled with people. I love entertaining, cooking, laughing and being with them all. Most of all I love watching it, I love seeing Corey’s Mom soak up her kids and our girls soak up their Grandma. I love hearing Corey joke with his brothers and know that at least for 48ish hours I don’t have to be the one listening to the “car talk” stuff.
Weekends filled with that many people are tiring, lots of work and busy, but they’re worth every second of effort, when we see the smiles on the faces, laugh till we cry (Chelsea) and get the opportunity to take pictures like this one…
and this one
annoying kid’s song is true – the more we get together the happier we’ll be.
*You know the song, “The more we get together, together, together, the more we get together the happier we’ll be”*
ps. HUGE fail on my part. We got a bunch of great photos and after everyone left I realized Corey’s mom wasn’t in any of them. I’m SORRY!
