I was fortunate enough to grow up in a small, tight-knit community here in Canada. Just 2 hours outside of Vancouver, B.C surrounded by mountains, lush and green (thanks to days, and days, and days of rain) – Hope is one of those places you simply have to visit.
We had one theater that ran a few times each week, an outdoor swimming pool, a small arena and handful of coffee shop/restaurants. For many of us being entertained meant the park in the center of town, was where we spent many afternoons, laughing, swinging and chase each other around.
Over the years we’ve taken both our kids back to Hope. Not only to show them “where Mommy grew up” but to take them to some of those old places and to let them play in that park. In fact, it was in Hope that Audrey had her first time ever in an outdoor swing.
Our girls love being at the park, here and anywhere they go – they are vital feature in any city or town. Often times they’re the things that draw communities together through the playgrounds, events and sporting fields.
When I heard about the Kraft Celebration Tour the other day I was instantly transported back to those old memories.
In its 5th year the Kraft Celebration Tour gives Canadians the opportunity to nominate their community for the chance to win $25,000 toward a project that will either improve an existing community space or construct a new one.
Each of the winning communities will also host 1 of 10 live broadcasts on Canada’s TSN sports news program from August 16 – 25 2013 sharing their experience! The winning communities in Quebec will be featured on the RDS daily sports talk show Sports 30 Le Magazine.
The Kraft Celebration Tour is bringing communities together to promote health and an active lifestyle by recognizing and supporting the passion and community spirit that binds us all together!
Since 2009, there have been $1 million awarded to 40 deserving communities in Canada! Hundreds of thousands of Canadians have been able to benefit & enjoy the improvements made to their community. Among the projects the Kraft Celebration Tour has helped to:
- Build a Skate Park
- Upgrade a Sports Field
- Improve a boxing facility
- Renovate a community center
“Each year we embark with TSN on the Kraft Celebration Tour and are amazed at how committed Canadians across the country are to improving the communities that they live in,” said Jack Hewitt, Vice-President, Marketing Insights and Services, Kraft Canada.
“For the past four years, the communities that are honoured and the stories that are told by the Kraft Celebration Tour help remind us how fortunate we are to live in such a diverse and beautiful country filled with countless remarkable people. To be a part of something as special as this program is an honour for all of us at TSN and we can’t wait to head out on the road again.” said Stewart Johnston, President, TSN.
I love it! These are just big companies and industry icons here in Canada. They are members of our communities and people, with heart!
