Walking around Children’s Hospital in Vancouver is a powerful experience. If you’ve never had to go there (praise the Lord!) I suggest you stop in for a day, just to see what I mean. The people who work at BC Children’s hospital, the admissions staff, cafeteria workers, janitors, technicians, doctors nurses and volunteers have a special something that everyone should get to see – they have a beautiful love of children that shines so bright.
Over the last 30 years I’ve spent my fair share of time there, first as a patient, then as the mother of a sick little girl. As a child, I felt safe at Children’s Hospital and loved by the staff. None of my procedures felt as scary there as they did somewhere else – there was something about those experiences that made me feel brave, like I could do it. Looking back, I now know it was the people – the ones that worked there and those who made contributions to support them. As a mother that security remains, I trust them with our children explicitly.
This year we had appointments at Children’s on Halloween and as our girls walked around being blessed by the volunteers & exciting activities planned I noticed something. They were seeing the good that was happening there and they not only wanted to be a part of the fun, but they wanted to do things for other kids too!
That observation has opened up doors for us to remind them of the blessings that come from loving others. One of the greatest gifts we can ever give our children is teaching them to be generous, with their time, with their hearts and with their hands. Some of the most powerful gifts we give to another have no monetary value at all. We’ve been able to do just that and as the holiday season progresses I look forward to more opportunities!
Kinder Canada has once again given us an opportunity to do something great with their A Joy To Share Program, which supports the Children’s Miracle Network. This year’s program includes a super fun addition – card creating!
When you head over to the Kinder Canada Facebook page you can create a cute greeting card, that ranges in themes from “Get Well Soon” to “Season’s Greetings”, choosing background, theme, character and message. Once it’s created you can “Share it” with your friends on Facebook, save it to your computer or print it!
The best part though, is for every card created Kinder Canada will donate $1 to the Children’s Miracle Network, up to $25,000! As of this morning when I checked on their progress, Kinder had announced they’d already raised $18,000, isn’t that exciting?! Hospital’s like BC Children’s Hospital and their patients will be blessed and supported by you, and all you need to do is have a little fun creating a card with your kids!
Audrey and I had fun creating our card, and I’d love to see all of yours! Once your card is finished, share it on your Facebook wall and tag us, Our Family Stone, that way we can see all the fun you’re having with Kinder.
ps. While you’re at it I highly recommend picking up a few Kinder Eggs or some of the Kinder Mini Eggs for your stockings! Not only do they make a great 2 in one gift (toy & treat) they also make for yummy snacking for those late night gift wrapping sessions. Not that I’ve been digging into them at all or anything…
